Umbrella employment: how does it work?

Do you want to start your own business as an independent worker?
When you work with an umbrella company, you get a secure, flexible, reliable status, without any unpleasant surprises!
This status is recognised by French Labour Code law L1251-64 signed on 25 June 2008.

You get the advantages of being an independent worker without the constraints of admin and tax hassles. As an umbrella employee, you are your own boss, with added legal protection from MISSIONS-CADRES and employee status.

Umbrella employment: simple and secure

Four questions about umbrella employment

1. How do I get started as an umbrella employee?

Contact one of MISSIONS-CADRES' advisors. Our umbrella company will take care of everything. First, you sign an umbrella agreement that gives you the legal status you need to start working as an independent umbrella employee. It sets out each party's reciprocal commitments and the framework for your future business.

2. What do I need to do once I get my first client?

Once you get a potential client, MISSIONS-CADRES can help you prepare a quote. When a client accepts your quote, we write up a service contract that secures your work as an independent service provider. This umbrella contract may be signed by all three parties (you, the client, and MISSIONS-CADRES ) or by you and your client only.

The service contract defines the terms of every aspect of your assignment: type, duration, fees, and conditions.

3. Who pays me when I finish my umbrella assignment?

MISSIONS-CADRES pays you your entire salary at the beginning of the month after you bill your work, if your client is in France. We deduct all social charges incumbent upon the employee and the employer and our management fees (applied at a lower rate as your billings increase).

Then we bill your end client and follow up any unpaid bills as needed.

With MISSIONS-CADRES, you get full protection and support, from the time you start until you are paid. You don't waste any time handling the unexpected admin and tax issues that often fall upon traditional freelance workers. As one of our umbrella consultants said, “As an umbrella employee, when I work, I pay, and when I don't work, I don't pay."

4. As an umbrella employee, am I really my own boss?

With MISSIONS-CADRES, you are your own boss. Your clients are your own, and you are not subordinated to us. As your umbrella company, we are in charge of protecting your business, simplifying your admin, and securing your cash flow. Under no circumstances is MISSIONS-CADRES your employer.

Plus, the confidentiality clauses in the umbrella agreement specify that we never have any data about the services you provide.
